Courthouse Square, Bloomington

11:40 - 12:30 p.m.: : This 8-piece band will be marching to the Fest Stage from the B-line Trail starting at 11:40, arriving at the Fest Stage at noon, playing the Fest from noon to 12:30. The band will be led by its founder, IU Jazz and percussion alum Ben Fowler (snare drum), and will include Matt Andert: drums, Josh Olivo: drums, Matt Romy: bass, Zach Frasier: guitar, Alex Arnold: trumpet, Matt Setzler: alto sax, Dylan Maloney: tenor sax.  They will be playing arrangements by members of the band as well as their original fusion of world & jazz brass parade band music.

12:40-1:30 p.m.: The Matt Shugert Jazz Quartet includes Matt Shugert on tenor sax, Josh Espinoza on piano, Conner-Green on bass, and Josh Roberts on drums. IU Jazz Grad AI Matt Shugert’s contemporary acoustic jazz compositions and his arrangements of jazz classics and standards will be played by four of IU Jazz Studies’ finest recent grad alums and current jazz grad students.

1:40-2:30 p.m.: , with Craig on piano and vocals and Joe on saxophone. Featuring Bloomington’s award-winning boogie woogie and blues pianist/vocalist & CD Recording artist of 2 of Bloomington’s favorite bands: The Ragin’ Texans, and his own Craig and the Crawdads, the duo will be performing Craig Brenner’s piano and vocals and Donnelly’s original jazz compositions as well as their versions of New Orleans R&B,blues, and boogie-woogie piano classics, also featuring Donnelly’s sax solos/vocals. Donnelly is currently band director of Jackson Creek Middle School and recently composed and had his school ensemble perform his original musical based on the early life of Bloomington’s world famous song writer, jazz pianist, and vocalist Hoagy Carmichael.

2:40-3:30 p.m.: , a quartet featuring Kienle: guitar, and compositions, Tom Clark: saxophones, Neal Heidler: bass, Josh Roberts: drums.  Longtime Bloomington electric jazz guitar master and composer Kienle’s new contemporary electric jazz quartet will be performing original contemporary jazz compositions. Kienle has recorded many albums with his wife Monika Herzig’s electric jazz group Beeblebrox, as well as with several groups of his own, including Splinter, Qwyjibo, Earplane, Third Man, Freesome.

3:40-4:30 p.m.: features Bloomington’s well established hard-bop Jazz group with IU Professor of Political Science Isaac on piano,IU Professor of Jazz Pat Harbison: trumpet and flugelhorn, returning IU Professor of English Jonathan Elmer: trombone, IU Jazz bass Professor Jeremy Allen: bass, and IU jazz alum Mitch Shiner: drums. They will be playing blue note–style swinging and funky hard-bop by the likes of 1950’s-1960’s Blue Note artists Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Sonny Clark and Herbie Hancock.

4:40-5:30 p.m.: , a traditional New Orleans jazz octet, is led by Mike Lucas on piano, Jack Shelton: trumpet, Bill James: clarinet, Danny Hughey: trombone, Kathleen Miller: vocals, Robin Hopkins: banjo, Don Stejskal: drums. The band will play lively and lighthearted versions of great New Orleans and Traditional jazz classics by the likes of Jelly Roll Morton, Bloomington’s Hoagy Carmichael, Fats Waller, and the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, and featuring great songs from the 1920’s Jazz Era sung by lively jazz vocalist Kathleen Miller.

5:40-6:30 p.m.: is an acoustic modern jazz quintet with vocals and  includes David Miller: trumpet, Luke Gillespie: piano, special guest Rachel Caswell: vocals, with IU jazz grad saxist Matt Shugert: tenor sax (subbing for Tom Walsh), Quinn Sternberg: bass, Josh Roberts: drums. Bloomington’s longest active (formed by Miller in 1977) modern jazz combo, led by Jazz Fables Concert Series/Bear’s Place founder David Miller-trumpet, and usually with IU Profs of Jazz Tom Walsh on saxes, and Luke Gillespie on piano (the 3 original founding members of the 1989-90 Jazz Fables Quintet at Bear’s Place), will play swinging acoustic modern jazz and featuring jazz vocals by Bloomington jazz vocal recording artist and special guest Rachel Caswell, including tunes by Bloomington’s own songwriter great: Hoagy Carmichael, plus great tunes by Duke Ellington,Thelonious Monk, and Joe Henderson.

6:40-7:30 p.m.: Monika Herzig's , an acoustic modern jazz band, features sextet Monika Herzig: piano and keyboard, Janiece Jaffe: vocals, Carolyn Dutton: violin, Amanda Gardier: alto sax, and Hanna Johnson: drums. Bloomington’s longtime jazz group leader and recording artist Monika Herzig will lead her Women In Jazz sextet in playing original jazz by Herzig, Jaffe and members of the group, and standards and jazz classics by famous women composers.

7:45-8:35 p.m.: Richard Baskin Big Band, a contemporary jazz big band, is directed by John Porter featuring Richard Baskin: jazz vocals, Matt Shugert: saxes, Josh Espinoza: piano, Josh Roberts: drums. The group will be led by IU Jazz Vocal Studies Graduate student Richard Baskin’s smooth vocals on his original jazz songs, and his original contemporary Big Band arrangements of Jazz classics, standards, and great Brazilian songs, and more!

8:45-9:45 p.m.: The Jamey Aebersold Quintet features Jamey Aebersold: alto sax, compositions and arrangements, Pat Harbison: trumpet and flugelhorn, Luke Gillespie: piano, Jeremy Allen: bass, Jonathan Higgins: drums. Aebersold is the 2014 NEA Jazz Masters Jazz Education award winner, IU Jacobs School of Music alum with his honorary IU Doctorate in Music degree, innovator of his famous Jamey Aebersold Jazz Play-along music cds and booklets, and founder of the world renowned Jamey Aebersold Jazz (education) Camps. for this B’town Jazz Fest performance, Jamey Aebersold’s Jazz Quintet will be playing Aebersold’s excellent swinging jazz instrumental arrangements of modern jazz classics, standards, and his original jazz compositions.

10:00-11:00 p.m.: features 5 time Latin-Jazz Grammy Award nominee: trombonist, composer, arranger, IU Jazz Professor of Practice, and bandleader Wayne Wallace as well as Matt Riggen, John Sorsen and Sean Weber, and great Latin-Jazz rhythm section featuring (from Aruba) Jamaal Baptiste: piano, IU Professor of Jazz Jeremy Allen: bass, and Mitch Shiner: drums, and Mike Coletti: congas. The group will be playing Wallace's exciting and danceable contemporary Latin-Jazz octet arrangements.
